The betrayal. The arrest. The trial. All the events leading up to the crucifixion show us that it wasn’t Jesus who was really on trial. The entirety of the human race was actually the one on trial. Jesus was our substitute. He took our place. He stepped into our mess and received what was due to us. And every detail of the story shows us why He had to do what He did.
